A vandalized Confederate memorial in St. Louis, MO.
#BlackLivesMatter, and no one believes in them more than white liberals. As a corollary to this, any elements of American history that indicate otherwise are now endangered. The most recent casualty is the Confederate heritage of white Southerners, a branch of Anglo-America with an attachment to their failed 19th century rebellion, and respect for the hundreds of thousands of their forebears who died in its name.
The Confederate battle flag, which flies all over the South, from public memorials to pickup trucks, is being demonized in the wake of the Charleston shooting. The governmental, social, and political response has been to push for the removal of all symbols related to white Southern heritage, because according to our civic clergy, something something racism. Only by ritually purging our racist symbols, i.e. those largely or uniquely related to white people, can we rid ourselves of the evil racism that makes people do bad things. Even Republicans are tripping over themselves to partake in this, because god forbid they be perceived as pro-white, or “racist” in leftspeak. That would cost them Democratic voters. Conservatives want to be ten years behind liberals, not twenty.
What we are witnessing is iconoclasm, incontrovertible evidence that we are indeed in the midst of a cultural war, regardless of what snarky talking heads say otherwise. One group’s symbols are under attack and being figuratively and literally desecrated while another’s are being championed. It’s something that happens in a lot of societies when they undergo huge ideological shifts, and the United States is in the midst of one where race and identity are central. Is #BlackLivesMatter and all it’s associated with merely a low-intensity black nationalism/centrism, or is it a cudgel used against white identity and the white majority that will ultimately centralize us into one deracinated mass culture? Is it a means, or is it an end?
I’m not certain I have the answer, but what is certain is that the flag controversy highlights a fundamental contradiction of multiculturalism, the tendency of multicultural societies to, well, not exist. They either separate into two parallel societies within the same state, such as through segregation or ethnic enclaving, or they collapse the state into successor states. Essentially, few people genuinely want multiple cultures, and so we are seeing the “racist” or problematic ones, literally just white and/or Christian, subject to dismantling. There is most certainly a clash and it is between pro-white and anti-white, even if few will frame it as such. Most peculiarly, we have a situation where nominal white conservatives are only conservative in terms of fiscal policies and support for Israel and foreign wars. Many of them are in fact culturally liberal, and open to the idea of white identity as not existing, of non-white people’s grievances as superseding their own interests, LGBT issues, etc.
But why do this? Why are white liberals and even white conservatives, to say nothing of non-white agitators, tripping over one another to erase white history and heritage?
In his Notes on the State of Virginia, Thomas Jefferson writes:
It will probably be asked, Why not retain and incorporate the blacks into the state, and thus save the expense of supplying, by importation of white settlers, the vacancies they will leave? Deep rooted prejudices entertained by the whites; ten thousand recollections, by the blacks, of the injuries they have sustained; new provocations; the real distinctions which nature has made; and many other circumstances, will divide us into parties, and produce convulsions which will probably never end but in the extermination of the one or the other race.
What is truly amazing is that now is probably the best time in history to be an ethnic minority, so long as you live in a Western country. And yet, they’re louder and angrier than ever before, and have become more aggressive in asserting their identities not simply independent from the majority but against the majority, with the intention of deconstructing it without touching their own. Yes to a black identity, no to a white one. Two diametrically opposed groups are in cultural conflict with one another, a soft form of warfare. Who could have guessed?
What’s more amazing is that sizable swathes of the majority ethnicity have cast their lot with the minority and thereby have effectively switched tribal loyalties. Whites are rushing to the defense of non-whites and willingly degrading their own identities as shameful, evil and privileged. The “oppressed” are our moral superiors, right?
All of this is happening despite the equal rights and special treatment awarded to our protected minority classes over the last sixty years. They aren’t appeased, and they’ve allied with the cultural marxist left. Ten thousand recollections, new provocations, and the distinctions nature has made. The wounds fester, and eternal flame is fanned. There is no peace but a steady march of encroachment. Most if not all arguments against Confederate heritage could be readily extended by the left to really include the United States itself. Wasn’t slavery legal at the federal level for nearly a century? Or what about imperialism? The American flag has flown over a lot of unprogressive things. And many Americans have historically stood for those as well. Will Washington and Jefferson be spared? They were white men, so I assume they won’t be getting a pass. Taking down the Confederate flag will definitely move the Overton window.
Via the SPLC’s Facebook page, no surprise there.
Liberal iconoclasm is essentially a proxy for race war. Roof the Rhodesian thought he was going to trigger a race war in his manifesto. He was wrong of course; killing unarmed black people in a church did not lead to a white racial uprising, not that it would have. Americans are fundamentally not a violent and unstable people. We had one civil war a hundred and fifty years ago. We don’t like fighting for our domestic political beliefs through violence, and the history of the United States, with the exception of the War of Independence and the Civil War, indicates that controlling institutions is what truly creates change. Whether it’s the White House, Congress, the Supreme Court, the media or corporations, you need a far reaching center of power to really impress your ideas upon minds and mobilize them for or against something en masse. The earlier ‘Civil Rights Era,’ the crusade against Confederate heritage, and the recent Supreme Court ruling on gay marriage are testament to that. In 2015, rather than violent conflict, we are instead going to have a race war by proxy, and it’s being lead by the left.
Liberals aren’t actively going to kill whites, even if 85% of interracial crime is black-on-white, they want to ban guns, and also support displacement-level immigration that will result in the loss of the white majority by the 2040s. This isn’t South Africa yet, but we are seeing symbolic ethnic/racial conflict in the form of purging symbols of white identity. The removal of such symbols will not covert white Southerners who embrace Confederate heritage into good multiculturalists, but it will disorganize them and make them less visible. And that is certainly a step towards white genocide, the destruction of a people. There is blood in the water and the iconoclasts are coming to feed. The Confederate battle flag comes down and the rainbow banner goes up. It will not end here.
